I just wanted to send you a note about the superior level of care and support we received for my mother, Mary, during the several months she was in The Lodge, and especially during her last week with us. Mom passed away on Friday, October 14th after a rapid decline in her ability to sustain herself and to continue to thrive. She was a “physically active and healthy 88 years old”, but the dementia took its toll quickly last week.

After residing in the San Francisco Bay Area for 86 years, I finally convinced my mom, Gladys Pash, that it was time to move to Reno to live closer to me. In July of 2009 she did just that. After thorough searching and talking to several friends and acquaintances I made the decision that Cascades of the Sierra was to be mom’s new home. And am I glad I did.
My mother had finally settled in to her new assisted- living arrangement and was beginning to enjoy her new surroundings. Needless to say, moving from the only area she had ever known for 86 years to the much smaller, desert city of Reno was quite traumatic, but as she did with everything else she adjusted. My mom had outlived two husbands and suffered with breast cancer twice, but it was always her positive outlook that carried her through each new chapter of her life. Mom thoroughly enjoyed all of the staff at the Cascades, but one member, Carolina Urizar, quickly became her favorite.

"I just wanted to thank you for the great job you and your staff do at Cascades. My grandmother (Marion Poindexter) loves it there, and it's so good to see her 'come alive' after living alone for almost 10 years since my grandfather passed away. She's my last grandparent and it pleases me to know she's living in such a warm and lively community. "

"Life can be a mysterious journey, especially if you live long enough.
I am writing you today as a consequence of visiting one of your newest facilities located in Reno, Nevada. My mother – who is almost 82 – wanted to see your facility for herself before inviting her friends on an outing and I wanted to make sure she knew how to find the place.
First, let me compliment your management team in Reno on their gracious demeanor; it appears you've got yourself a great crew. Second, I want to say how much we loved your property right down to that saline pool. In fact, with wireless, chefs and putting greens to boot, it even appealed to me (and I'm just 50!)."

"Thank you for the excellent, loving care your staff provided my mother at Cascades during the final year of her life. Please let them know they did well. They treated her with kindess and respect and she thoroughly enjoyed living there.
Thanks again for the beautiful flowers Cascades sent to her funeral in Ohio, they were the prettiest arrangement there. Michael and I think Cascades is one of the best assisted living facilities there is. We always felt welcome and will return for a meal from time to time to enjoy the Chef's cooking.
God bless you...for remembering...for caring."
